Dear Participant,
For those who booked the pre-trip with a hotel room, The Marriott Residence Inn, Downtown Ottawa is located at 161 LaurierAvenue W (pronounced LORYAY) just east of Metcalfe St. The hotel has been provided with roommate assignments by MOCA. Please do not ask hotel personnel to swap roommates. Your room cost has been paid, however you will be expected to provide a credit card at check-in in the case that you need to pay for any incidentals (mini-bar, premium TV, etc.). For those staying at the Residence Inn, a buffet breakfast is included in price of the room. Breakfast is on the 4th floor and is served between 6:30 and 8:30 am each morning. Those who registered with the "no hotel" option will need to make alternate arrangements for breakfast. There is a Tim Horton's located just outside the hotel which you may find convenient. After you arrive at the hotel Tuesday evening, join the group at a buffet dinner at Tucker’s Marketplace 61 York St in the ByWard Market at 7:15 pm. This dinner is included in the price of the pre-trip.
Although hotel check out time is 11:00 am, our Thursday morning activities will run later than this. The hotel will provide us a secure area for storage of baggage Thursday, so please plan to check out of your hotel room prior to breakfast and to bring your bags down for storage at that time. For those who wish to shower and/or change after walking or cycling around Ottawa Thursday morning, the hotel has offered us the use of the health club changing rooms and shower facilities for this purpose.

If you are flying into Ottawa for the pre-trip, you will need to provide your own transportation to the hotel. This leg of the trip is NOT included in the shuttle cost. CAR RENTALS and TAXIS are available at the arrivals level. Various online sources estimate taxi fare at C$35-40 to downtown. BUS TRANSPORTATION is available from the airport to the downtown core with a stop about two blocks from the hotel (you can walk or take a taxi from here). The cost is C$3.30 if you purchase a bus ticket at the airport's ground transportation desk. You can also pay your fare on the bus, but the fare is C$3.65 in that case, and exact change is required (in Canadian dollars) when paying on the bus.
Take bus route # 97 Bayshore, which departs from pillar 14 outside the level one arrivals area. Arrive at stop ALBERT/METCALFE (stop 3001) (travel time approx. 35 min) Five Min Walk (about two blocks) to Marriott Residence Inn (161 Laurier Avenue West (Between Metcalfe St. and Elgin St.), Ottawa), or take a taxi from here.
